STUDENTS MAKING A COMMUNITY CHANGE

Sacramento County received a grant to reduce the impact of underage and high risk drinking. To that end, students at our target campuses (Hiram Johnson and McClatchy High Schools and Sacramento State University – Sacramento City College to be added this spring) have been meeting to learn the status of the current situation and some potential solutions. The students have named the project SMACC (Students Making A Community Change). On February 4th, they held a joint summit to interact with selected community leaders and to decide on the individual campus projects.

Part of the summit program included a panel of community leaders who were asked to give a 2 to 4 minute presentation on the impact of underage/high-risk drinking in their area, and changes they would like to see. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.
